About Stack

Built on Legacy, Family, and the Right Way to Play

Sonoma Stack Baseball is a community-based, all-volunteer travel baseball program built on attitude, energy, effort, family, and respect for the game.

Welcome to Sonoma Stack Baseball

Sonoma Stack Baseball began in the fall of 2009 and continues to grow through the commitment of dedicated volunteer coaches, parents, players, community supporters, and the generous support of the William Moore Stack Foundation.

The program was built by a group of dedicated baseball dads, families, and kids who simply loved to play ball. Today, Stack remains rooted in that same spirit — a love for the game, a commitment to development, and a strong connection to the Sonoma community.

The Legacy Behind the Name

Honoring William Moore Stack

Sonoma Stack Baseball is named in honor of William Moore Stack. Known as “Billy,” he emigrated with his family from Ireland in the late 1920s. At just 17 years old, Billy enlisted as a sailor in the United States Navy.

During World War II, Billy made the ultimate sacrifice for his country in the South Pacific when his ship, the USS Quincy, was sunk during the Battle of Savo Island. The ship now rests with Billy and his fellow sailors at the bottom of what became known as Iron Bottom Sound.

Years later, members of Billy’s family settled in Sonoma Valley and established a foundation to honor his heroic legacy. A grant from the William Moore Stack Foundation helped launch Stack Baseball in 2009.

Our uniform colors and logo were chosen to honor the United States Navy and Billy’s service. To this day, “Billy Stack on three” can still be heard at Stack games and practices.

“Billy Stack on Three”

More than a chant, it is a reminder of the legacy behind the program and the standard our players carry every time they take the field.

Don’t Tell Me. Show Me.

Our mantra is simple. A good day at the yard is defined by each player confidently knowing, “I made my team better today.” That starts with attitude, energy, and effort.

Family Comes First

Family is the cornerstone of the Stack program. Our coaches stress the right way to play the game, and our families and fans are encouraged to support that same standard.

We Love to Watch You Compete

We believe the six most important words a family member or fan can share with a player are: “We love to watch you compete.”

Support the Program
